Abstract:

The unprecedented penetration of distributed generation in distribution network provides utilities with a unique opportunity to manage portions of networks as microgrids (MG). The implementation of an MG may offer many benefits, such as capital investments deferral, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, improvement in reliability, and reduction in network losses. In order to draw the most effective performance from MG systems with multiple energies, appropriate design and operation are essential. This paper represents a compound co-optimization strategy to find the best type and size of components and the associated optimum dispatch in a MG with multiple energies considering reliability criteria. The mixed-integer nonlinear programming technique of GAMS and the genetic algorithm of MATLAB software are utilized to solve the optimization problem. In addition, a novel time-based demand response program is modeled to prevent the energy usage at peaks. Numerical simulations prove the effectiveness of the proposed expansion planning.

A RELIABILITY APPROACH TO COMPARE OPTIMAL SEISMIC DESIGNS OF MULTIPLE-TUNED-MASS-DAMPER

Passive systems are preferred tools for seismic control of buildings challenged by probabilistic nature of the input excitation. However, other types of uncertainty still exist in parameters of the control device even when optimally tuned. The present work concerns optimal design of multiple-tuned-mass-damper embedded on a shear building by a number of meta-heuristics. They include well-known g...

Optimal Allocation of Distributed Generation in Microgrid by Considering Load Modeling

Recent increment in carbon emission due to the dependency on fossil fuels in power generation sector is a critical issue in the last decade. The motivation to Distributed Generation (DG) in order to catch low carbon networks is rising. This research seeks to experience DG existence in local energy servicing in microgrid structure. Optimal sizing and placement of DG units is followed by this pap...
